One might think that 5 hours of church in a language that you don’t completely understand would be boring and make you sleepy. One would be wrong. Church this morning in Les Cayes was inspirational with 200+ people in attendance. Music, singing, smiles and the feeling of love and good will surrounding all. After that we traveled to Chantal, where we had our first service with the Pastor and his wife there, and all of our children. A church with slatted walls, blue unicef tarps keeping out the sun, decorated by paper chains that we made yesterday with the children and lovely draped fabric behind the seats of honor. Rocking and rolling with Pastor Lubin bringing down the walls. Then on to Les Cayes again for our traditional banquet for the children that this year we combined with the giving of holiday gifts. It was a day of thanks and an awareness of ties that bind. Tomorrow the beach! And a short remembrance of all that was lost when, 5 years ago, Haiti was wracked by a ‘trembleman de te’ and how they survived.
