Here is an update from our Supervisor in Haiti:
Greetings everyone,
I am happy to announce that we introduced a new tradition with our children at Restavec Freedom Alliance which is to make them realize that on a special day they came into this world. Louinel was so thrilled to see me show up with a cake just for him. He knew that day I made the trip from Les Cayes just for him to spend time with him on the exact day of his birthday, even though he know I was not feeling well as he mentioned to me. He could then have his own money to buy whatever he wanted or go brag to his friends; he felt like a grown up.
It’s an amazing feeling that a simple gesture could make him feel so special. And when I got to the girls the housemother said that 5 of them were celebrating. I got the feeling that a couple didn’t really understand the concept and it shocked me. Things that we think as just normal from our perspective can be so meaningful to someone else. These girls probably had no idea that this is their day to feel special from their previous lives. Yeah, I brought cake to celebrate with them but I felt like the bigger cake RFA gave them was this brand new life, this whole structure or that house where we gathered around the table, this new family.
