Recently we made some changes in the setup of our homes in Chantal and Ducis, Haiti. After much deliberation and input from the children in our program as well as determination from our executive director in Haiti, it was decided that Restavec Freedom Alliance can better serve the RFA children by placing the boys in one home and the girls in the other. We believe that this will help our children because we can better target their education and career interests. The RFA Board is eager to watch the children develop in their new same-gender environments and looks forward to update our community of supports about their progress soon.
The official transition ceremony was on September 2nd, 2013 and led by Pastor Jean Phares Beaucejour – our executive director, who lives in Les Cayes, Haiti. Pastor Beaucejour reports that the transition proceeded smoothly and that the children are happy with the change. Many people from the community were also present at the ceremony which was filled with songs, prayers, and joy. At the conclusion of the ceremony the girls were brought to Chantal and the boys were sent to Ducis.
